Seeing Timor in a New Perspective

Before I start, I want to say that this blog will not be a weekly or monthly blog. This blog will be erratic due to the internet access that I have at my disposal. So this will be my first post of many erratic posts.

Everyday I find myself discovering something new about this country, either it be the people, food, or the places I have been. I cannot exclude myself from that frame of thought also. In a sense Timor-Leste in a nutshell to me is "new."

For one thing, Timor is a new country in terms of recognition of government and identity. Each day, the citizens of Timor are identifying what they want in a government and who they want see in government. They know matters of government are corrupt as of right now, but they know time is time will change everything in some way or another. As for the government, each department still thinks of itself of an individual entity operating seperately from the government; with still being part of the government. Makes sense, right?

As for the people, I will say that the people are new to me. They have their own traditions, food, and clothing. Traditions such as, eating dog or combing animist and Catholic traditions together and not differentiating between them. Or them having to eat boiled bananas with hot sauce (sidenote: if you ever make it to Timor do not try the boiled bananas.) Clothing is also a mix between traditional western dress

New is good. New is an experience and a new place to see. Without new, there would be no beginning and a fresh start. That is why "new" gives the people of Timor a second chance at life and a second time to laugh together. These encounters might be scary at first but with time, the people of Timor are always creating and imagining new ideas. So here is to my new experiences in Timor with the people of Timor as we laugh and learn together!

P.S.
I know this blog is short, but it is really hard to sum up ten weeks of new experiences so I hope these pics will suffice
